A student of Obafemi Awolowo University from the Faculty of Law, Amotul-Mujeeb Salahudeen Ahmed has defeated others to emerge first at the 35th edition of National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at Bayero University, Kano State.
National Coordinator of the competition, Professor Abubabakar Yalwa Mohammad stated this on Saturday while announcing the winners of the competition in a statement sent to Dpath To Jannah Team.
While announcing the results, Professor Muhammad who is also the director of Centre for Islamic Studies, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, stated that the OAU student who came from Lagos emerged first position at the 5th category Female of the memorization of 10 hizb of the glorious Qur’an.
“The OAU student took 95.40% to emerge first position, Fatimoh Muhammad Tijani from Borno state took 93.20% to emerge second position and Salamatu Usman Abdullah from FCT took 90.90% to emerge third position at the 5th Category Female of Memorization of 10 Hizb of the glorious Qur’an,” he said.
However, our correspondent gathered that the 35th edition of National Quranic Recitation Competition which began on 19th March, 2021 and ended on 27th Match, 2021 at Bayero University, Kano, featured over 300 young reciters drawn from across the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory participating in the weeklong event.
The annual ritual being organised by the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, presented a unique platform where young talents in Quranic memorisation and interpretation contest and the best with the rendition emerge champion.
Participating states field their contingents to feature in the six categories including the lower based recitation with category’s five portions of the Quran; 10 Quran portions; 20 portions and 40 portions of the Quran. The first and second top most categories feature contestants with competence of memorisation and interpretation of the Quran and others only with full knowledge of memorisation respectively.
ProfessorMohammad had explained that the competition established in 1986 was intended to inculcate Muslim youths with culture of memorisation of the holy Quran and foster brotherliness among the younger generation irrespective of ethnic and regional divides.
Mohammad explained further that six judges, one among them on reserve; who are also one-time winners of the competition, were carefully selected to test the capacity of the participants.
