Dear brethren,
Permit me to first give glory to Almighty Allah who had kept myself and you alive to witness the beginning and the end of Ramadan 1443. All glory and gratitude belong to Him. May His peace and blessings be upon the noblest of mankind Muhammad (SAW), his household, his companions and those who follow him until the last day. Amin.
Dear beloved, Ramadan is a month of spirituality where Muslims perform different kind of acts of worship ranging from solawaat in congregation, reading and pondering over the Quran, giving charity and so on. The month is a blessed month where Allah chained down the Shaytan to prevent it from whispering to mankind, this makes it easy to do more acts of worship.
Ramadan 1443 has ended. Ramadan is gone. But as good Muslims, we need to ask ourselves many questions. Most importantly; what next after Ramadan? Does it mean we can lax around after the blessed month? The best among the generation of the Prophet (SAW), his companions were reported to prepare for Ramadan six months before its arrival and made dua for its acceptance for six months afterwards. With this, it means we are required to be in the spirit of steadfastness all year round as Muslims.
A saying goes “the key to Consistency is Steadfastness” we need not be sad when we lag behind in our worship. Moreso, don’t be overwhelmed when you think you are doing your best in worshipping Allah (SWT) which makes it hard to continue. Rather, strike a balance by being consistent and doing things moderately.
The Prophet (SAW) said: “Do such deeds as you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired of giving rewards until you get bored and tired of performing religious deeds” [Bukhari and Muslim].
These are five things we need to keep up with after the blessed month:
1. Try to make up with your missed fast immediately after Ramadan. It is important. You have to fast your missed fast because it was said that if a person die without completing his or her missed fast, his or her relatives must pay it for him or her. Also, don’t forget the six days of fasting in Shawwal (Sitatul Shawwal).
As narrated by Abu Ayyub (RA) that Allah’s Messenger, (SAW), said: “whoever fasts during the month of Ramadan and then follows it with six days of Shawwal will be rewarded as if he had fasted the entire year.” The involuntary fasting days (such as the Monday and Thursday fast, the 13th, 14th and 15th day of every month; ayyam bi’d and so on) are also there to keep us on track.
2. Recitation of Quran: The Quran is the only book which can bring peace and tranquility to the heart of man, we as Muslims shouldn’t be far from it. Reading and pondering over the meaning is very important in our daily life. The Prophet (SAW) said: Whoever recites a letter from Allah’s Book, he receives the reward from it, and the reward of ten the like of it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is a letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter. (Sunan At-Tirmizi).
3. Be consistent with observing the Tahajud. Even if it is a few rakaat, be consistent with it and with that you will grow to observe more of it.
4. Give charity: taking just little out of the wealth Allah gave us makes it purified. It is a norm for Muslims to do more saqadah during the month of Ramadan. But what next after it? Do the poor needs to suffer pangs of hunger after Ramadan? Muslims should try to keep the act of charity flowing all year round with that the society will be a better place to live.
4. Engage in remembrance of Allah and seek for forgiveness: A servant shouldn’t be far from his Lord, remembrance of Allah at all time makes it easy to be close to Him. Also, seeking for forgiveness always is very important because we are human and we tend to err a lot.
5. Lastly, let’s keep track of our daily act of worship ranging from observing salah in congregation, making Dua to Allah, being among the righteous people and so on.
I pray Allah accept all our efforts as an act of worship from us and make us of the successful ones on the day of judgement. Amin.
