There are as many reasons to wear a hijab as there are women who choose to do so. For some, it’s a response to a personal calling from God. For others, it’s an expression of their devotion and faith. Still, others see it as a sign of empowerment and rejection of societal norms that tell them how they should look or act. It is the love for Allah that drives Muslim women to observe the hijab in our modern age where we are constantly bombarded with images of half-naked bodies and lewd behavior.
As challenging as this may be, we submit ourselves to our creator out of love for Him and fear of Him.Read on to discover why Muslim women choose to wear the Hijab and what it means to them.
Hijab is my shield and my pride.
The hijab is a shield that protects women from being viewed sexually. When women choose to cover their hair, they are covering their most attractive features. A woman’s hair is a source of beauty that can easily attract the attention of other men, even if she is happily married. When a woman covers her hair, she protects her marriage from outside attention because her physical beauty is less apparent. This shield also protects women from being viewed as sexual objects and abused. There is a rampant problem in our society where men view women as objects to be used for their own personal pleasure. Whether in the form of catcalls or rape, women are often treated as nothing more than sexual beings. By covering themselves, they shield themselves from this type of treatment.
I wear Hijab to protect myself from a world that doesn’t care. There are many reasons why women might feel the need to protect themselves. Perhaps they have been the victim of abuse, or perhaps they live in fear of it. Perhaps they are in a community where their rights are not respected and they are treated less as humans. Perhaps they are in a culture where women are not valued and their rights are not protected.
As a Muslim woman who wears the hijab, you are likely to face criticism for your choice. People may look down on you and make assumptions about your intelligence, your ability to succeed, or your overall worth as a human being. It is important to remember that you are wearing the hijab because you are protecting yourself from these people.
I wear it to please Allah.
The hijab is not an item of clothing you wear because you want to be fashionable or because you want to please other people. Instead, it is an article of clothing that you wear because you want to please your creator. You acknowledge that He created you and has given you a purpose in this world. You want to please Him by living according to the teachings of the Quran. You may be more modest than your friends, but this is not because you are trying to be socially acceptable. Instead, you are adhering to a very specific way of life that has been laid out for you by your faith. You are dressing modestly to please Allah because you know that modesty is one of the ways that you can draw closer to Him and remind yourself of who you are and whom you serve.
I wear Hijab because it is a reminder.
It is a reminder that you are a Muslim woman, and that you are not beholden to the fashion trends of the moment. It is a reminder that you are following the instructions laid out for you in the Quran, and that you live by the example set by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is a reminder that you are in control of your life and that you are serving your creator. When you put on the hijab, you are not only wrapping yourself in a piece of clothing, but you are wrapping yourself in a constant reminder of your faith. It is a reminder that you are Muslim and that you are serving your God.
The hijab is not a passive decision.
It is an active decision that a Muslim woman makes to protect herself from outside forces, please her creator, and remind herself of whom she is and who she serves. It is a decision that is often met with prejudice and misunderstanding, but Muslim women wear the hijab with pride and confidence. The hijab is a form of empowerment for Muslim women, and it is a constant reminder of their faith.
