Dr Abdyakeen Adebisi Kosamat, a Medical Laboratory Scientist and a lecturer at the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, College of Health Science, Osun State University, UNIOSUN, Osogbo has urged the Federal Government to take the education sector of the country very serious.
The lecturer stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday on the occasion of the 2022 World Teachers’ Day.
Dr. Kosamat expressed felicitations with teachers nationwide while commending their contributions to nation building.
“The teachers should see their work as their callings and put in all their efforts to see to the upliftment of education as it used to be in our country.
“The teachers should see the students and pupils as their own, hence, the need to imbibe discipline and sense of hard work in them.
“The teachers should also make efforts to develop themselves by attending, workshops and seminars,” he said.
While urging the government to take education serious, the UNIOSUN Lecturer said, “I want to appeal to the government of the day to take issues of education very seriously. Education has been relegated to the background.
“There are lots of issues bedeviling our educational system in the country. Teachers are not well renumerated.
“The learning and teaching environment are not conducive. Teaching aids are not adequate where they are even provided. The government should endeavor to include discipline in the curriculum. The parents are to be more involved in monitoring the activities in the school environment. The teachers are to be appreciated by giving them incentives.”
