Alhamdulillah, all praises and adorations belong to the Lord of the world, who ensures things are perfected.
I started my examinations with YOR111 which happens to be my first exam as an OAU student. I wrote it on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 Wednesday at Ajose LT.
My first encounter began when I didn’t know my way to Ajose LT, but Alhamdulillah,I was directed by a Godsend. The exam was scheduled to hold between 4pm and 7pm. As eager as I was to participate in the exam, I arrived the venue as early as possible.
I have learnt in my high school that, a student is expected to be at examination venue at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time. So I got there before 3:30 pm even when the exam was supposed to hold by 4pm. I believed I may come across those who I can share ideas with and I was right. I questioned few of my coursemate since the course itself is unpredictable.
To my surprise, the Lecturer in charge of the course, who was also the Invigilator, arrived before 4pm and the arrangement began.
My First time entering Ajose LT, I was disappointed and I couldn’t take a good glimpse at it just because of how curious I was.
The Lecturer arranged us despite the population of students taking the course. We were instructed to leave a sit between our partner. However, I was not surprised because there were two empty seats between my partner and I when we wrote his test.
Exams in OAU and how it is being conducted is totally different from that of my high school. They shared the attendance slip, then the answer sheet and OMR sheet.
Funnily, I counted the pages of the answer sheet and confirmed it to be 16 pages. Don’t blame me, it has been stated earlier that it is incomparable to that of my high school.
The expression on everyone’s face when the answer sheet was distributed to us was undefined because many people read for objectives. I can’t say for others, but for me, I was afraid, not because i didn’t read, but because i didn’t know how to add tone marks to words.
We were calm when the man shared OMR sheet to us.
Some minutes later, the time that cannot be predicted because our phones weren’t with us. Question was shared to us.
Three questions straight, with front and back printed, of which 60 were objectives, the 40 were what I can’t say, be it German or essay, I was confused. 3hours was stated in the time table, but baba said we were using nothing above 1hr, 30 mins. I was as calm as a dove, even when the question was yet to reach my side.
When the question reached me, I checked number 1, I couldn’t give answer to it. So I hurriedly do all the ones I was so much sure about.
I went back to the first question, and all I could say is that *Never put full concentration when a lecturer jokes in class. The Lecturer was so mean, the questions were simple and tricky, tricky in the sense that if I hadn’t read accordingly, I wouldn’t not have predicted what would happen. Most of the OBJ questions centred on what the baba insinuate whenever he jokes.
Baba Fabunmi is a jovial Lecturer. Permit me to say he’s gifted with that habit. Before baba finish a statement, the whole of the class would laugh, including me.
But baba was so lenient with his questions. Section B was about history and language of Yoruba, while section C questions were on the correct orthography.
Alhamdulillah, we sailed through it but the questions were tough to understand, but simpler than we expected.
*YOR111*, according to seniors and our experience, has no course outline nor materials.
We tried our best to get the past questions, but we were told it is just like that of LIT dept where students are restricted from taking question papers out of the exam hall.
I didn’t take the course lightly, especially when the updated time table was pasted. Baba Fabunmi is not supposed to supervise us according to the first proposed time table, but been the *HOD of Linguistics and African Language*, he can do whatsoever.
Seeing the updated one stating Baba Fabunmi to be the invigilator, I doubled my studying time because I knew Baba was cooking up something risky.
Alhamdulillah, I am happy, even when I’m yet to predict my grade. However, I’m so sure I performed well.
I beseech Allah to grant my colleagues and I good grades.
