The leadership of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) met with operatives from the office of the National Security Adviser to discuss the ongoing efforts to secure the release of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, who has been held captive for over eight months.
The meeting, led by the NMA President and the 1st Vice President, was described as both positive and productive.
During the session, the security operatives provided the NMA team with encouraging updates, confirming that Dr. Ganiyat Popoola is alive and that all efforts are being concentrated on bringing her back home safely.
However, they emphasized the sensitive nature of the rescue operation, which limits the amount of information that can be disclosed to the public at this time.
The NMA President also held discussions with the leadership of the NMA Kaduna chapter, who visited his office to express their concerns and solidarity.
He reiterated his firm commitment to ensuring the safe and timely rescue of Dr. Ganiyat and urged all members to continue supporting the National Officers’ Committee (NOC) and security agencies with prayers during this critical period.
In his statement, the NMA President expressed optimism, stating that the association looks forward to celebrating Dr. Ganiyat Popoola’s safe return soon, highlighting the collective resolve to see the rescue mission through to a successful conclusion.
Dr. Mannir Bature, the National Publicity Secretary of the NMA, echoed these sentiments, reaffirming the association’s determination to bring Dr. Ganiyat back home safely and urging members to remain hopeful as efforts intensify.

In our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safe return of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, who has been held captive for over 8 months, the NMA President, along with the 1st Vice President, held a positive and productive meeting with operatives from the office of the National Security Adviser. During the meeting, they were briefed on the progress of the rescue operation and received reassuring updates that Dr. Ganiyat is alive and that all efforts are focused on bringing her back home safely.
The security team requested our understanding, emphasizing that the sensitive nature of the operation limits the amount of information that can be shared publicly. In a related development, the NMA President also met with the leadership of NMA Kaduna, who visited his office to discuss the ongoing efforts. He reaffirmed his unwavering determination to ensure Dr. Ganiyat’s safe and timely rescue.
