The Standard Bearers Islamic Organization (SB), Ile Ife branch has fixed tomorrow, Saturday, January 27th, 2024 to award scholarships to Indigent but brilliant students who performed excellently in the 2023 Career Mentorship Programme scholarship examination.
The award ceremony is scheduled to hold at Ife Central Mosque, Enuwa on Sunday by 9am.
A renowned scholar and Professor of Chemical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Shuaib Osunleke will deliver lecture on the topic ‘Unlock the Potentials’
It could be recalled that SB had last year organized her annual Career Mentorship Programme scholarship examination for Muslim students in SS3 across the Federation where they tested them on English and Mathematics through Computer Based Test.
The yearly CMP program is designed to give WAEC/JAMB scholarship to indigent but brilliant Muslim students across the federation.
The program aims to assist deserving and most especially indigent but brilliant students pay for their WAEC registration fees. The program has assisted thousands of students since inception in 2017.
This program is also designed as an empowerment and capacity building programme where enrollees of the CMP will have the opportunity to meet professionals from different walks of life.
However, in the 2023 CMP, a breakdown of the scholarship examination results made available to our correspondent, shows that only 14.1% of candidates scored 50% and above.
Dr. Ibrahim Mogaji, the National CMP coordinator for SB, while giving insight into the results said, “in compliance with global best practices, the Standard Bearers conducted this year’s CMP screening examination via Computer Based Test.
“This perhaps is new for this category of students. However, it’s good we have exposed them to the CBT, because as we are all aware WAEC has announced plans to start conducting it’s examination via CBT as well.”
He explained further that, the leadership of SB anticipated the challenge and therefore, for the first time since inception of the CMP, conducted mock examination for candidates to assist their preparations.
The overall best student for CMP 2023 is from a public school in Ilesa, Osun State, South Western, Nigeria with 82% aggregate score. A good percentage of those who scored 70% and above were also not from what you can describe as “ivy league” private schools. This pattern of results lay credence to the fact that best output is achieved with students when the home, the environment and the school all play their positive roles. Parents are also encouraged to look at the teaching standards and the motivation of tutors in schools and not just the aesthetics and architectural design.
