We will take you through a journey that talks about Self-assessment and Ominous Signs of the days of the youth in the Nigerian political power play
Our correspondent was at the sermon delivered at the LASUTH/LASUCOM mosque in Ikeja, Lagos on Friday, 9th Ṣafar, 1445 corresponding to 25th August, 2023. At the start of the sermon, the Imam, clad in a white with a head covering similar to those of the Arabs, announced the traditional greeting of the Muslims, by saying Teslim “Assalam alaykum warahmotullah wabarakatuh”.
Our correspondent soliloquized after he (the Imam) started the sermon that he will be delivering a Khutbah titled “Self-assessment and Ominous Signs of the days of the Youth in the Nigerian political power play” that the congregation will cry or become sober at the end of the sermon. And so it was!
The Imam said during the lecture that “Today’s youth occupy a unique position in history which placed immense responsibility upon them, both as individual Muslims and as the drive engines of an active society”
He continued that “At this, there’s an inescapable need for self-assessment. The Muslim youth must assess their challenges, strength, weaknesses, and indeed current position of relevance in the scheme of things.”
The Imam, a brother to our revered Shaykh, the Chief Missioner of Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria, Imam AbdurRahman Ahmad added that “Challenges of the youths includes; Emerging Socio-economic and political Realities, Social Realities, Breakdown of Family structure – Parenting!!!”
He continued the lists of challenges thus: “Moral Decline, Culture of Materialism – get-rich-quick – ‘Yahoo plus’, Ideological Rebellion – ‘Marlians’… ‘Sorosoke’, Loss of (National) Identity, Religious Hypocrisy, Economic Realities, Declining Educational system, Abysmal economic prospect – Fund drain, Oil drain, brain drain, Loss of Hope, Political Reality; and Address political class of the Day”
He went further to address some of these challenges. One of those challenges he addressed was “Betrayals and ingratitude”. Imaginary God-Fatherism, (Self-)deceit and Political (Self-) manipulation and Corruption”
Then he reiterated Corruption; raising his voice three times “Corruption! Corruption!! Corruption!!!”
Lastly on “Betrayals and ingratitude” he said one other thing caused it is “Institutional Failure of Law and Order – Negative boot-loop Syndrome”
He concluded with the role of the Muslim Youth in the current political dispensation that Muslim Youths must wake up. They must not be distracted and they must take the bull by the horn. He said “The commissioner-designate lists that caused the Lagos Muslim peaceful Protest on Wednesday August, 16 2023 was an eye-opener” and that Muslim Youths are only angry but they left their Fathers, Shaykhs, and Imams alone to fight it out”
That anger will not results into any thing productive. He said “Youths are angry about everything. They are angry when they when the campaign was going on, they divided you and you sang the songs or lyrics of LP, APC and the rests”
He continued “You are too angry to put yourself on the ballot paper so that the Imams and Shaykhs will direct their voices towards you”
Also, the youths are too angry to lift a finger… So, when they are sharing positions, you’re too angry to be there (refering to the Ministerial Appointments of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu)
But, instead you left them to fight it out with the Governor. know that the time will come when these Imams and religious Scholars in our Deen will go and you will be left to confront a similar situation. What will you do then? He asked.
