The Artisans, Peasants, and Traders Association of Nigeria (APTAN), Ife Chapter, on Saturday successfully concluded its much-anticipated 2024 APTAN Week, which took place from October 20th to 26th, 2024.
It was gathered that the Saturday’s event took place at the Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial Hall in Enuwa, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
This year’s theme, “Bridging the Skill Gap: A Solution to Nigerian Economic Challenges,” aimed to address the pressing issue of skill acquisition as a means to counter economic hardship in Nigeria.
The week-long event, organized by APTAN to promote artisanship and skill development, was highlighted by a keynote lecture from Engr. Adewale Abdulganiyu Jawando, the Managing Director and CEO of Acumen Development Limited, who also chairs Acumen Farms Ventures.
In his lecture, Engr. Jawando emphasized the importance of acquiring practical skills in today’s economy, noting that skill development is essential for individuals looking to secure sustainable income and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
“Bridging the skill gap is not just an economic necessity but a means of empowering the youth and addressing unemployment,” Engr. Jawando stated.
He underscored how artisans, peasants, and traders play pivotal roles in the economy, providing goods and services that contribute to national development.
In addition to insightful discussions and skill-building workshops, APTAN took the opportunity to recognize outstanding contributions within the community.
The organization awarded three dignitaries who have shown unwavering commitment to supporting artisans and fostering local economic growth.
This honour reflected APTAN’s appreciation for those who advocate for the progress of artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs.
The 2024 APTAN Week served as both a learning and celebratory platform, where participants shared knowledge, showcased their skills, and discussed ways to tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges through craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.
