Renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Sharafdeen Gbadebo Raji, popularly known as Dr. Sharof, has issued a stern legal warning to a social media user identified as Alfa Olooko.
The user, operating under the name “Dr Sharof Jnr” on Facebook, is accused of impersonating Dr. Sharof and mocking his teachings in a manner deemed disrespectful and indecent.
Through his legal representatives at Criterion Legal Practice, Dr. Sharof has threatened to pursue legal action against Alfa Olooko unless immediate steps are taken to rectify the situation.
According to the warning letter dated August 18, 2024, Olooko is alleged to have used his social media platform to present Dr. Sharof’s lectures in a mocking and derogatory fashion, actions that go against Islamic values.
The letter outlines a series of demands that Olooko must meet to avoid legal repercussions. These include changing his username, ceasing all activities that mimic Dr. Sharof, and removing all content that portrays the scholar in a negative light. Failure to comply within five days could result in legal proceedings against him.
The legal team has cited provisions of the Cybercrimes Act 2015 and the Nigerian Criminal Code, warning that Olooko’s actions could lead to charges of Cyberstalking, Cybersquatting, religious insult, and impersonation.
