•Society distributes rice, meat portions to 79 families

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Bariga Central Branch (MSSN BCB) has used the occasion of the 2024 Eidul Adha to alleviate poverty in the community through free distribution of meats and rice to Muslims on Eid Day, June 16th, 2024 and June 18th, 2024 at Church street, Odunsi road, Bariga, Lagos.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Ameer (President), of the society, AbdulHafiz Qasim noted that MSSN BCB was able to distribute meat portions to 33 beneficiaries and rice (about 3kg) to 46 beneficiaries for this year’s Eid. He said “MSSN Bariga Central Branch values Muslims in the community and has designed several programmes to meet their needs. This is the second year we will be doing this Eidul Adha project. Alhamdulilah, we have surpassed the number of families reached for last year despite the inflation in the economy”.
He further called on the government to support the society in doing more. He said “We call on our leaders, starting from the Bariga LCDA Chairman, Hon. Kolade Alabi to the Senator representing Lagos East, Senator Tokunbo Abiru to support us in doing more of these programs”.
In addition, he continued “The society wishes to implore the FG to ensure all within her power, to improve the standard of living of Nigerians, work with farmers to improve food production and supply and be deliberate in making the country producers nation rather than consumers”
The Ameer also reiterated the impact of the Eidul Adha project in the community. He said “Last year, we distributed meat portions to up to 50 families, but this year, we have been able to reach close to 80 families”.
The Eidul Adha project identifies vulnerable and needy Muslims in Bariga, Akoka and environs with generous donations from well-to-do individuals both within and outside the community.
The Chairman of the planning Committee, Mr AbdulQadri AbdulRahman said “MSSN BCB programs is executed from donations and members dues. We had a donation target of NGN 600,000 for this year’s Eidul Adha project of which we generated about NGN 370,000 which is more than 60% of our donation target.”
The Chairman explained that it would not have been possible to execute this program had it been they could not raise substantial amounts of funds. He said “We use this medium to extend our gratitude to all our donors, well-wishers and sponsors who made it possible for us to reach out to the needy Muslims in Bariga today. I pray Almighty Allah reward them abundantly and give them the ability to do more. I would like to also acknowledge the effort of the committee for planning a successful Eidul Adha project this year”.
The society had also organized a virtual quiz competition using the fun-filled Kahoot! platform to mark the occasion of this year’s Eid. Thirty (30) contestants participated in the quiz competition which saw Maziyah Owolabi, 16 emerge as the overall winner. She won a cash prize of NGN 5000 with a full-chicken as a reward for her efforts.
Dpathtojannah gathered that MSSN Bariga Central Branch stages other community-based programs such as annual medical outreach programs, Mosque cleaning exercises, environmental sanitation aside from their soul-uplifting programs most especially their weekly Usrah (family gathering).
