Hamas and Islamic Jihad have responded to a US-backed ceasefire plan for Gaza. They have however added “some comments ” on the plan, Egypt and Qatari mediators familiar with the documents have said.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad in a joint statement affirmed that they are ready to deal “positively with the proposal to arrive at an agreement that prioritize the complete stop of Israeli aggression on Gaza”.
Though details are still sketchy at this time, Hamas is believed to have added notes to the document detailing the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip as a factor for a ceasefire deal.
Hamas is also ready to send in it’s negotiators to discuss details of the proposal.
“The Hamas response reaffirmed the group’s stance [that] any agreement must end the Zionist aggression on our people, get the Israeli forces out, reconstruct Gaza and achieve a serious prisoners swap deal,” a Hamas official told Reuters news agency.
White House has also confirmed receiving the response from Hamas and Islamic Jihad. House National Security Spokesperson John Kirby said the US was evaluating the response.
