All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all creation, and may His peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As we enter the new Hijrah year, we are reminded of the precious gift of time that Allah has bestowed upon us. Each year, each month, each day is a unique opportunity for us to grow closer to Allah, improve ourselves, and contribute positively to society. Today, from this Virtual Minbar, let us reflect on how best to make use of the newly granted opportunity of another year on earth.
1. Embrace the Reality of Time:
Time is a precious and finite resource. It is a blessing that should not be taken for granted. Allah tells us in the Quran
“By time, indeed, mankind is in loss” (Quran 103:1-2).
The new Hijrah year serves as a reminder that our time on earth is limited, and we must make the most of it to fulfill our purpose and seek Allah’s pleasure.
2. Reflect on the Past:
As we embark on this new year, it is essential to reflect upon our past actions and assess our spiritual journey. Consider the opportunities we seized and those we missed. Reflect on our strengths and weaknesses, seeking forgiveness for any shortcomings. This reflection is a means to improve ourselves and move forward with renewed determination and sincerity.
“Allah will surely know those who believe and He will surely know the hypocrites” (Quran 29:11).
3. Set Meaningful Goals:
To make the best use of our time, it is crucial to set meaningful goals that align with our faith and values. These goals can encompass various aspects of our lives, including spiritual, personal, family, and community goals. Setting goals helps us remain focused, motivated, and productive throughout the year.
“And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa (consciousness of Allah)” (Quran 2:197).
4. Strengthen Your Relationship with Allah:
Use this new year to deepen your connection with Allah through acts of worship and devotion. Prioritize daily prayers, establish a consistent Quranic recitation routine, engage in voluntary prayers, and seek opportunities for spiritual growth. Strengthening our bond with Allah brings peace to our hearts and guidance in our lives.
“And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death)” (Quran 15:99).
5. Seek Knowledge and Understanding:
The pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong journey. This new year, make a commitment to increase your knowledge of Islam. Engage in the study of the Quran, Hadith, and the lives of our righteous predecessors. Seek out reputable Islamic courses, lectures, and books that will expand your understanding of the faith and enable you to practice it with wisdom.
“Say: Are those who know equal to those who do not know?” (Quran 39:9).
6. Serve Others and Make a Difference:
Our time on earth is not only about personal growth but also about making a positive impact on the lives of others. Look for opportunities to serve humanity, whether through acts of charity, volunteering in community based organizations, mentoring, or supporting community initiatives. Each small act of kindness can have a significant ripple effect in uplifting those around us.
“And cooperate in righteousness and piety” (Quran 5:2).
7. Cultivate Family Bonds:
Our families are a tremendous blessing from Allah. Use this new year as an opportunity to strengthen family ties, deepen relationships, and create a nurturing and loving environment at home. Prioritize spending quality time with your spouse, children, parents, and extended family. Strive to be the best role model for your loved ones and build a strong foundation rooted in faith and compassion.
“But those who believe and do righteous deeds and enjoin one another to truth and enjoin one another to patience” (Quran 103:3).
Dear brothers and sisters, the new Hijrah year is a time of reflection, renewal, and growth. Let us embrace this opportunity with open hearts and minds, recognizing the value of time and the importance of making the most of it. May this new year be a year of spiritual elevation, personal development, and positive change in our lives and communities.
Let us seize each moment, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings, and strive to leave a positive legacy that will endure beyond our time on earth. May Allah bless us all and grant us success in this new Hijrah year.
